The Side Breakfall (Yoko Ukemi)
Used when you are tripped or thrown to the side.
The Technique: Roll onto one side, keeping your bottom leg bent and your top leg slightly elevated. Just like the rear breakfall, slap the mat with your arm on the side you are falling toward.
Safety Tip: Never reach out with a “straight arm” (bracing) to catch yourself. This is one of the most common beginner mistakes and can lead to serious injury.
